A recent regulation in China caused a popular VPN service provider to announce that it will be shutting down on the 1st of July, this year. The regulation is supposed to ban telecommunication companies and internet access providers from setting up or renting VPNs, to bypass local online restrictions without the proper approval.

Australia's prime minister said on Tuesday that officials from the Five Eyes alliance, which includes: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will gather next month in Ottawa, Canada in a meeting to discuss plans to direct technology companies and firms into disclosing encrypted data.

On Tuesday (June 13th), the Egyptian government has extended its efforts to reinforce its internet sovereignty by blocking VPN providers as well to restrict any possible access to the banned websites since VPN services allow users to bypass any geo-retractions and unblock any restricted web content on the internet.
