Kaspersky or Kaspersky Lab is one of the most popular antiviruses used today. We all know the importance of having an antivirus on your device these days especially with all the online threats taking place and Kaspersky is considered one of the reliable antiviruses out there. Recently the use of VPNs has become of equal importance as the rate of online censorship, online surveillance, and cyber crimes has risen greatly in the past decade. The issue here is that using both a VPN and an antivirus can sometimes cause a conflict leading to one of them not operating properly. This is why we need to know how we can adjust them to work together without the need of shutting either of them down. This can be done by adjusting the Kaspersky antivirus to allow your VPN application to work through its firewall. In other words, to prevent Kaspersky from blocking your antivirus. In this tutorial we will show you, step-by-step, how to adjust your Kaspersky antivirus and add an exception rule within its configuration to allow your VPN to work normally and not block it or treat the VPN application as a threat.
How to Prevent Kaspersky Antivirus from Blocking VPN
1- In the system tray, click on the upward arrow to show the hidden icons and right click on the Kaspersky icon. From that menu select “Settings”
2- From the panel on the left side of the settings page in the Kaspersky application, select “Threats and exclusions” from under “Options”
3- On the right side and under “Exclusions” click on “Settings”
4- In the “Settings” window, click on “Add” in the middle of the window. This will open the window labeled “Exclusion rule”
5- In this window and in the section labeled “Properties”, click to check the checkbox labeled “Object” and make sure that the checkbox labeled “Threats type” is unchecked
6- Click on “Select Object”. This will open the file browsing section
7- Navigate through the files of your computer and select your VPN application (depending on where you have it saved on your computer)
8- Click on”OK” in all the open windows until you close the Kaspersky application
At this point you have successfully added an exception for your VPN application through the Kaspersky antivirus without shutting down the antivirus altogether and exposing your device to online risks.
