Based in the United States, Private WiFi VPN was launched in 2010 as one of the Private Communications Corporation’s to provide internet privacy and security for those connected to public WiFi networks (Hotspots). The VPN services provided by Private WiFi VPN are not only for personal use, but for business use as well, making it a very good VPN service for businessmen and travelers. In this review, we will discuss the different features provided by Private WiFi VPN based on their free trial. Scroll down for more details.
Pricing
Private WiFi VPN offers 3 different price plans: Pay As You Go, Monthly and Annually.
Free Trial & Returns Policy
Private WiFi VPN offers a 10-day free trial through which you can test the service and explore the features it provides.
As for returns, Private WiFi has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Payment Methods
Private WiFi VPN accepts the following payment options: PayPal and major credit cards. As for “pay as you go” subscriptions, users can make payments through app stores. Sadly, they do not accept more secure and anonymous payment methods, such as Bitcoins, but they clearly state on their website that such sensitive data is completely secured and protected.
” We have created physical, technical and administrative safeguards that are designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access.”
Security
Private WiFi uses bank level security protocols to operate automatically when connected to a public WiFi. This makes is very useful for businessmen and travelers who are always on the go and frequently connect to the internet using public WiFi networks such as those found in cafes, restaurants, shops, hotels, airports, etc. to protect their personal and sensitive information from anti-theft and any kind of violation against personal security and privacy. Private WiFi supports 128-bit encryption protocols, like: OpenVPN and PPTP.
Privacy Policy
Private WiFi VPN does not keep traffic logs, keep records of your internet activities, neither websites your visit, nor do they share any of your information with any third party, not even your government. However, they keep some personal information, such as: contact, billing and IP informaiton. They may also keep only certain records of the duration of your VPN session and bandwidth.
” We take seriously the privacy of your data. We do not monitor any of your online communications. So if any government was ever to subpoena our server records, we have virtually no information to give them. We do maintain a set of usage logs, including time on and off our network and total bytes transmitted. [...] We do not monitor or record the sites that you visit nor the contents of any Internet communication. “
Private WiFi VPN Features
Private WiFi VPN offers basic features. We would have been happier if it offered more advanced features like: kill switch or DNS leak protection, but they are enough to enjoy a VPN on the go.
Servers & Bandwidth
Private WiFi VPN has roughly around 50 servers spread across 14 countries, including: United States of America, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, South Africa, India, Japan, Australia. Moreover, IPs are randomly designated to its subscribers which makes tracking an a user’s location even more difficult.
As for bandwidth, Private WiFi VPN offers unlimited speed and unlimited bandwidth, except for pay as you go users whose packages are limited from 1GB to 10GB of data.
We tried connecting to different servers and we were not impressed with the speed as we were constantly disconnected.
Compatibility
Private WiFi supports the following platforms: Windows (7 & higher), Mac, Android (Jellybean & higher), iOS (6 or higher). It is also compatible with desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Private WiFi Client for Windows
We have signed up for a free trial and downloaded their Windows software on our system to test their VPN service. The signing up process is extremely easy, all you need is to provide a valid e-mail address and download the software.
The installation process went seamlessly and without any hassle. The client did not take up much space either, it is around 10MB in total.
At first we were automatically connected to “Turkey” server as it was supposedly the fastest, but we did not have much luck with it. So, we selected “France” server and it worked just fine for a few minutes, then we were disconnected.
All in all, the interface is very user-friendly and well-developed. However, the overall performance of Private WiFi VPN did not meet our expectations. Our speed was faster than when we were connected to Private Wifi VPN.
Customer Support
You can communicate with Private WiFi VPN through e-mail tickets. Unfortunately, they do not provide live chat support. On the other hand, they have a copious F.A.Q and troubleshooting section. However, their forum and news section is not up to date.
Conclusion
Private WiFi VPN is a decent basic VPN service provider that is a very good choice if you are always on the go. We found the VPN’s performance not very impressive, as the connection was not reliable. We hope that they would work on improving this issue in the future. On the other hand, it is cheap and provides unlimited bandwidth as well as unlimited speed. Their privacy policy was clear about saving personal data, such as: contact and billing information. But overall, it would get the job done whenever you are connected to a public WiFi.
