In this tutorial we will be going through the detailed, step-by-step, process of manually configuring a Virtual Private Network or VPN’s Point-to-Point-Tunneling-Protocol or PPTP connection on your Belkin router. This way you will be able to ensure complete online security, privacy, and freedom for all the devices that connect to the internet through this Belkin router.
Before we start you must make sure that you have the following:
1- A fully active internet connection
2- The Belkin router that you have must support PPTP
3- An active subscription to a reliable VPN service
Setting up the PPTP on the Belkin Router
First: Logging in to the router
1- Once you are connected to the internet open your browser
2- In the address bar type in the local IP address of your Belkin router (usually it’s either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and if not you can refer to your Belkin router’s catalogue)
3- This will take you to the login page and you will be asked to enter your Belkin router’s username and password
Second: Configuring PPTP
1- From the main administrator page open the “WAN” section
2- Under “Connection Type”, select “PPTP”
3- In the field labeled “PPTP Account’, enter your VPN username
4- In the fields labeled “PPTP Password’ and “Retype Password” enter your VPN password
5- Leave the field labeled “Hostname” empty
6- In the field labeled “PPTP Server IP Address”, enter the IP address of the VPN server you want to connect to (this can be found on your VPN provider’s website and make sure that this server supports PPTP)
7- Set the field labeled “IP Assigned by ISP” to “Yes”
8- Leave the checkbox labeled “Disconnect After” unchecked
9- Click on “Apply Changes” to connect to the VPN server
Once the connection is established this means that you have successfully setup a VPN’s PPTP connection on your Belkin router and any device in your home or office to the internet through this router will enjoy all the online benefits of a VPN connection including ensuring online security, online privacy, and online freedom.
